We work with a wide spectrum of customers including undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni. In alignment with the Career Center's direction of providing customized and specialized services, this position provides specialized counseling and programming for the growing population of International students at both the undergraduate and graduate level to serve the unique needs of this population. This professional will develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate career services, resources, and programs for International students across the wide range of Berkeley departments and programs. The position also plays a crucial role in a unique network of relationships by linking employers, faculty, staff, and students with information, resources, programs and services relevant to their specialized career needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide career counseling services to undergraduate and graduate international students with unique career development needs and specific work authorization and visa requirements.?Provide students with guidance and information regarding career decision-making, self-assessment, career options, goal setting, career research, the job search process and applying to graduate school. Deliver a variety of career workshops and programs on these topics.
  • Research, design and plan strategy for delivery of broad and complex career-focused programs and events for international students that incorporate the needs of campus partners and constituents such as the Berkeley International Office.?
  • Initiate special programming and projects based upon the changing needs of students and the marketplace.
  • Establish new relationships with employers and corporations and other organizations related to career services and job opportunities for international students and alumni. Promote partnerships and play a key role in the campus's relationship with outside organizations, with a special focus on opportunities in Asia.
  • Develop tailored e-mail communications and other written materials that are customized to international students and alumni. Write and maintain specific sections of the Career Center web site and contribute to unit publications.
  • Conduct needs assessments/surveys, collect and report on data related to service delivery and outcomes. Analyze and address unique issues and problems concerning career services to international students.?
  • Collaborate with other members of the University community to develop specialized resources and programs/workshops.
  • Create working relationships with student organizations as well as campus staff to collaborate on program delivery; build effective partnerships through regular communication, collaboration, and consultation.?
  • Participate on unit-wide committees and projects.
Qualifications:
  • A Masters Degree in counseling, career development, student affairs, or related field, or equivalent experience.?
  • Demonstrated experience counseling college students with career/employment issues and advanced knowledge of career development issues and theories.?
  • Experience designing and delivering workshops/programs; strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and employment information sources as well as the application process for graduate and professional school.
  • Knowledge of international student visa types and requirements and work authorization processes.?
  • An advanced understanding and ability to work with and serve individuals from diverse backgrounds and from countries from around the world, and related cross-cultural counseling skills.?
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, employers and alumni.?
  • Experience and proficiency with incorporating the use of technology to deliver career services.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with international students in a university setting involving career/employment concerns (preferred).
