Like they did with both the Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger Blu-rays, Marvel has filmed another installment in their "One-Shots" series of short films to accompany The Avengers Blu-ray, due out on September 25th. Previously their other two short films have starred Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and have been sort of a day-in-the-life of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. This time their new short -- titled Item 47 -- stars Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) as a couple in New York City who discover one of the Chitauri's alien weapons following their invasion of the city. With the city still in chaos following the events in The Avengers, the couple decide to use the weapon to their advantage by going on a crime spree. Meanwhile, it's up to two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, played by?Maximiliano Hernandez and Titus Welliver, to stop the duo before things get too out of hand.

Unlike the other two shorts, this one will run at about 12 minutes versus 5 minutes, and the budget is also significantly bigger since there will be more special effects. According to Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito, the goal is to have a short film accompany every home video release from here on out, though they're still figuring out whether they'll ever introduce a new character this way since they'd have to be finished with the casting process by the time they shoot the short. D'Esposito tells Entertainment Weekly, who premiered the photo, "There?s always a potential to introduce a character. We have 8,000 of them, and they can?t all be at the same level. So maybe there are some that are not so popular, and we introduce them [with a short] ? and they take off. I could see that happening.??Screenwriter Eric Pearson added that the goal of this short was to expand the world and show us "more human elements of it."?

Fans going to Comic-Con next week in San Diego will get the chance to see Item 47 in its entirety on Thursday, July 12th at a theater that hasn't been named yet. Meanwhile, Marvel will release a clip from the short through an online scavenger hunt that begins this Friday.?
