Washington show more than scratches surface of prints
Two words: Walton Ford. To be sure, the Washington Art Association's "On the Surface, Below the Surface" exhibit, one of its most gripping, offers plenty of enticements. But it is Walton Ford's scintillating works that will leave you breathless. "On the Surface" is strictly a print show, of which we've been seeing more lately. This time, the printer in question is New Hampshire's Wingate Studio, one of the premiere print workshops and publishers in the region.
Wingate founder Peter Pettengill has assembled a slew of luminaries, including a few represented here ? Sol Lewit, Charles Cajori, Ambreem Butt, Richard Ryan and John Walker, over the last 30 years.
