Summer Baseball: Franklin Legion makes Zone 6 playoffs

Cam Flateau went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, including a solo home run, as Franklin Post 75 qualified for the postseason for the fourth straight year by defeating Westwood, 15-8, in a Zone 6 West Legion matchup on Wednesday night called in the sixth inning because of darkness.

Brendan Skidmore went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the first inning, while Drew Inglesi went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base for Franklin (14-4), which also moved into first place in Zone 6 West over idle Walpole.

With Franklin leading 8-7, Riley Young (3-for-4, 2 runs scored) started a seven-run rally in the sixth inning with a two-run single to give Franklin some breathing room. Tim Huffam went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Post 75.

Franklin has now qualified for the Zone 6 playoffs in four of its five years in existence.

"I think we have been able to have some great leadership from the older players," said Franklin manager Mark D?Angelo of his team?s success. "They have really led by example and have been able to teach the younger kids. We have two freshmen and four sophomores on the team this year and the older guys have played in the system and know the expectations and help the younger players move along and show them the ways."

Post 75 advanced to the second round in its first trip to the playoffs, but has experienced first round exits the past two seasons as the fifth seeds. Franklin has six games remaining in the regular season, starting with Norwood on Friday night.

NATICK 3, MEDWAY 1: Tosh Campbell allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out seven for Natick (6-9) in a CMSBR non-division victory at Medway.

Caleb Winn went 2-for-4 with scored a run in the first inning and Kennedy Wilson scored the other run in the first to give Natick a 2-0 lead. David Reynolds went 1-for-2 with an RBI single, while Nick Wilson had an RBI and a run scored.

Medway scored their lone run in the fourth and Natick added an insurance run in the sixth.

Ethan Mick pitched well for Medway, allowing two earned on seven hits and striking out three in a complete game effort.

MARLBOROUGH 7, HOPKINTON 3: Starter Nick Keymont allowed two earned runs and two hits with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings to record the win as Marlborough (7-7) defeated visiting Hopkinton (1-11-1) in a CMSBR non-division matchup.

Eric Schmidt pitched well in relief and closer Garrett Harrington struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning to cap the win.

Mike Bonk had a double, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, Joel Wilner had a hit, two runs scored and three stolen bases, Mike Yates had a hit and two RBIs, and Cam Berry hit an RBI double and stole a base for Marlborough, which scored two runs in the first and two in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Drew Donohue doubled and scored a run, and Thomas Mayo hit an RBI single for Hopkinton. Starter Jason Lu pitched a compete game and struck out eight.

SUDBURY 3, MILFORD 1: Starter Keiran Pathak allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts in five innings for the win and Tommy Novick pitched two innings of hitless relief as Sudbury (11-4) defeated visiting Milford (3-11) in a CMSBR non-division game.

Larry Salvucci doubled, singled and scored a run, and Chris Malone had an RBI single for Sudbury, which won it with two unearned runs in the sixth inning.

Milford?s Mike Cafarella doubled and scored on a Matt Hastings single in the fourth inning tied the game 1-1. Griffin Lynch allowed one earned run in a complete-game effort for the Micros.

MEDFIELD 14, HOLLISTON 4: Tim Haggerty led off the game with a solo home run for Medfield (11-3) in a win over Holliston (4-8-1) in CMSBR non-division action.

Haggerty finished 3-for-4 with a double, single, and four RBIs, while Sam Chapin also hit a solo home run for Medfield.

Mike Sancomb had an RBI triple and scored a run for Holliston.

ASHLAND 6, BELLINGHAM 0: Zach Blecher threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts in a complete game victory for Ashland (10-3) at Bellingham (11-3-1) in CMSBR non-division action.

Collin Nanatovich went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Nick Cunningham finished 1-for-2 for Ashland.

FRAMINGHAM 7, FRANKLIN 4; FRAMINGHAM 4, FRANKLIN 3 (8 INN.): Sam Slater pitched five innings of one run ball with five strikeouts in the first game as Framingham swept a double-header against Franklin in CMSBR play.

Framingham (9-5-1) is now on an eight-game winning streak.

Evan Hanson went 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs in the first game for Framingham.
Hayden Sullivan went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for Franklin (1-13).
? In the nightcap, Nick Cronin pitched into the sixth inning for Framingham while Tristen Perez had a double, two RBIs and a run.
? Michael Doherty smacked a two-out single which drove in the tying run in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

Framingham eventually won when Hanson scored from third on a wild pitch in the eighth inning.
